Student wellbeing
At Sandringham College we place a strong emphasis on student wellbeing and offer a vast array of support.
Support for Student Learning
Year Level leaders
Our support network
Key to our effective support of student learning and wellbeing is strategic allocation of a fulltime Wellbeing Coordinator at each campus. Our extensive network includes an Assistant Principal, College Inclusion Coordinator (for students with a disability), Year Level Leaders, Wellbeing Coordinators, Mental health Practitioner, DET SSSO staff and external agencies.
Individual Support
Our Student Wellbeing Team are available to provide confidential assistance to students and their families should they need it. Students and parents should first speak to the relevant Year Level Leader about their concerns. Students may then be offered a confidential appointment with one of our trained wellbeing counsellors for further assessment and support.
Group Workshops
Workshops and groups of varying sorts are organised throughout the year through our Life Skills program to promote the wellbeing and personal development of students. Group programs give students the opportunity to learn new skills. Our programs are targeted at the maturity level of students and focus on adolescent mental health, physical health, safety and wellbeing.
Community Support
In Victoria, students have access to many support services outside of school, including Headspace Centres, Community Health Services, Council Youth Teams and private counselling. We encourage parents/carers to consult with their GP regarding support services. Alternatively, parents can approach the school for advice and guidance with how to engage in these services.
Our commitment
Sandringham College is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Our school community recognises the importance of, and a responsibility for, ensuring our school is a safe, supportive and enriching environment which respects and fosters the dignity and self-esteem of children and young people, and enables them to thrive in their learning and development.
For more information download our Child Safe Standards Code of Conduct or the Department of Education Student Engagement Policy.
