Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) has been designed to increase pathways for young people in Years 10 to 12 from secondary school to work and/or further education and training.
Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
VCAL provides an applied learning context and much of the teaching and learning is based around projects negotiated and ‘driven by the students’ and the learning is often described as ‘hands on’.
Students need to be actively involved in their learning and the skills developed through the projects include communication, problem solving, team work and leadership. Students need to study a VET course, work part time as well as complete the compulsory VCAL strands at school. The school has a work placement officer who is able to support students to find a work placement.
The VCAL will provide a program of studies in the following four compulsory strands:
Full requirements, subject descriptions and further details can be found in the Senior School Curriculum Guide, published in Term 2 each year.
